Short-term assignmentJOB DESCRIPTION:
The objective of the assignmentDuring the last decades, as a result of the significant increase in water use in the RA, it has had a rather negative impact on water resources. The amount of use of surface and underground water resources is constantly increasing in the Republic.
USAID/Armenia Improved Water Management program will provide support to the RA Government in the process of capacity building for river basin management planning in Armenia.
Within the framework of the project, work will be carried out to update the management plan of the selected Southern Basin management area.
Within the scope of this technical task, the mapping of the Southern Basin region will be carried out by the cartographer/GIS specialist according to the tasks presented below.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Add the layer of recreation areas to the map of protected areas;2. Updating the separation layers of the water bodies of the Southern WBMA and creating a map;
3. Drawing up a map of significant pressures on water bodies, where the following layers should be:
- infrastructures;
- irrigated areas and gardens;
- fisheries, hydropower plants, industry, landfills;
- mining, tailings;
- diffuse and point sources of pollution;
4. Updating and mapping of existing and proposed monitoring network layers;
5. Compilation of thematic maps of activities in the area of water basin management;
6. Prepare interim and final reports in Armenian and English languages.
Deliverables:
- First report (the first phase assignment: parts 1, 2 and 3) (November 15, 2023 - January 15, 2024)
- The second report (the task of the second stage: parts 4 and 5 (January 16, 2024 - March 15, 2024)
Results-reports of work are presented in the following format:
a) Layers and data of GIS files shp. or gdB. with files;
b) Maps in jpg or tiff type files.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Geography or Information Technology with a focus on the water sector or extensive experience (minimum5 years);- Expert-level experience in water resources database management;
- Experience in geographical information systems (GIS) ( minimum 5 years);
- Experience in working with international organizations in the water sector is an advantage;
- Fluency in English and Armenian languages.

The Program has the following objectives: application of advanced technologies and tools,
improved water governance, promote and scale best practices and innovative approaches,
regional cooperation with neighboring countries, improved access to water.
