External Relations Assistant

TERM: 

Part-time or full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week) or with flexible schedule (20 hours per week).

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Under the guidance of the External Relations Associate and the Assistant External Relations Officer, the Intern will be accountable for supporting the implementation of communication and external relations activities in line with humanitarian response, programme advocacy and risk communication purposes and aimed at ensuring effective outreach to people of concern to UNHCR. Support the External Relations Unit with outreach, including media relations, digital media, multi-media projects, events, exhibits and campaigns to ensure public support for refugees and UNHCR.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

- Assist in the creation of original content (messages, photos, and/ or multimedia) for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Telegram and Twitter;
- Support in the administration and regular update of the UNHCR Armenia website, and assist in the creation of bilingual content for the website;
- Support key social media projects, including preparations for UNHCR and UN observances and other major events happening in the refugee space; draft post-event documents;
- Research, compile, draft and edit information for use in the preparation and production of social media content, often under tight deadlines;
- Assist with social media planning and scheduling using tools like Trello, MS Teams, others;
- Monitor and analyse statistics related to social media;
- Perform other relevant tasks, as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum qualifications:
Eligibility
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/ undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education institution;
- Have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Qualifications and skills:
- Understanding of social media platforms and SMM skills (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Telegram);
- Superior command of Armenian (Eastern) and English languages;
- Experience in writing for social media audiences (in Armenian (Eastern) and English languages);
- Basic photo editing skills;
- WordPress content creation and WP CMS administration skills will be considered as an advantage;
- Demonstrated interest in human rights, refugee issues, and humanitarian response;
- Meticulous attention to details and effective time management skills;
- Excellent command of Armenian (Eastern) and English languages; knowledge of any other language is an asset.

REMUNERATION/ SALARY: 

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses (the Allowance). When the agreed internship is not full-time, the Allowance will be adjusted accordingly.
