Short-term assignmentJOB DESCRIPTION:
Objective of the assignment:During the last decades, as a result of the significant increase in water use in RA, it has had a significant negative impact on water resources. In the Republic, the amount of use of underground aquifers, which are intensively polluted by drinking and domestic, industrial and agricultural activities, is constantly increasing.
USAID/ Armenia Improved Water Management program will provide support to the RA Government in the process of capacity building for river basin management planning in Armenia.
Within the framework of the project, works will be carried out in the direction of updating the management plan of the selected Southern watershed area.
Within the scope of this technical task, the Hydrogeologist/Groundwater specialist will carry out the evaluation of the characteristics of the relevant groundwater resources of the Southern Basin Management Area and work according to the tasks presented below.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
.1. Separation of underground water bodies of the water basin management area;
2. Identification of significant pressures and potential impacts on groundwater bodies, including identification, analysis and assessment of point and diffuse pollution;
3. Assessment of the status of groundwater bodies in the basin management area and the proposed monitoring network of groundwater resources;
4. Risk assessment and determination of environmental goals:
- Groundwater risk assessment indicators and criteria;
- Groundwater risk assessment;
- Environmental objectives for groundwater bodies;
5. Planning the program of events:
- Prepare basic and additional measures as a result of assessment of pressures and impacts on underground water resources;
6. Prepare interim and final reports in Armenian and English languages;
7. Prepare PowerPoint presentations to the reports in Armenian and English languages.
Deliverables:
The first report (task of the first stage: parts 1, 2 and 3) (November 15, 2023-January 15, 2024).
The second report (task of the second stage: parts 4 and 5) (January 16, 2024-March 15, 2024).
Results-reports of work are presented in the following format:
a) Reports in MS Word text files;
b) Data and graphs in MS Excel spreadsheet files;
c) Maps, and drawings in KML, jpg or tiff type files.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in geology or hydrogeology;- Deep understanding of the management of water resources;
- Work experience (minimum 5 years);
- Fluency in English and Armenian languages.

ABOUT COMPANY:
USAID launched the Armenia Improved Water Management Program to refine Armenia’sapproach to water management and protection of freshwater resources. The Program is
funded by USAID and implemented by Deloitte Consulting LLP as the prime contractor and
sub-contracted by Urban Foundation for Sustainable Development (UFSD), University of
Colorado Boulder, and Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus).
The Program has the following objectives: application of advanced technologies and tools,
improved water governance, promote and scale best practices and innovative approaches,
regional cooperation with neighboring countries, improved access to water.
