ABOUT:
Emily Aregak Centre is a Gyumri-based support and resource organization for youth with disabilities. The project is financed by Caritas Austria and implemented by Armenian Caritas Benevolent NGO. Caritas Austria has a long cooperation with Armenian Caritas in different fields of social and economic development. From the very beginning of their partnership, both organizations prioritized the goals of providing services for people with disabilities and increasing their involvement in society. Caritas Austria was instrumental in financing the foundation of the Emily Aregak Centre, a Gyumri-based support and resource organization for youth with disabilities implemented by Armenian Caritas. The Centre was founded in 2008 to develop children's physical and mental abilities and life and social skills in preparation for societal integration and independence. Its mission is to foster the integration of young people with disabilities (PWD) and their families into society so that they are treated equally. The Centre serves 110 children with disabilities, aged 2-18, on a weekly basis. While first fulfilling the basic needs of youth, including nutrition, hygiene, transportation and some medical aid, Centre staff also provide a range of specialized services, including special pedagogy, physiotherapy, art therapy, speech, music and psychological therapies. Parents and family members are also counselled. For more information about Emily Aregak Centre, please visit:
