Background and Rationale
Human rights research in Armenia continues to evolve; however, many emerging scholars and practitioners lack access to structured methodological training, sustained mentorship, and opportunities to connect their research with policy and international academic debates. These gaps often limit both the quality and the policy relevance of locally produced research.
To address this need, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is launching a seven-month Research Academy, designed to support a small cohort of researchers in developing high-quality, policy-relevant human rights scholarship. The Academy will prepare individuals to submit papers for consideration for RWI’s 4th International Conference: Human Rights Research in Armenia: Current and Emerging Issues.


Programme Objectives
The Research Academy will support Armenian researchers to:
- Strengthen methodological and analytical skills in human rights research;
- Support participants in developing original research papers;
- Foster interdisciplinary dialogue and peer learning;
- Connect emerging researchers with mentors, policymakers, and international experts;
- Increase the visibility and publication prospects of Armenian human rights research.


Programme Structure and Timeline
The Research Academy will run from 1 April to 31 October 2026 and will include:
- Training sessions on human rights research design, methodology, and academic writing;
- Regular mentorship from national and international human rights research experts;
- Peer exchange meetings to discuss research progress;
- Guidance on preparing conference-ready papers and publication outputs; and
- Guidance on successful approaches to collaborative and group-based research models, including small joint research grants involving multidisciplinary teams.

Participants will be encouraged to submit their research to the 4th International Conference: Human Rights Research in Armenia: Current and Emerging Issues. Selected participants will receive technical support in refining their papers for presentation and publication.

ՊԱՀԱՆՋՆԵՐ՝ 

Who Should Apply
RWI plans to select up to 6 participants. The programme is for Armenian researchers and primarily targets:
- PhD students and early-career academics;
- Master’s students preparing to pursue doctoral studies;
- Representatives of civil society organisations actively engaged in research.

Applicants should demonstrate a clear interest in human rights research in Armenia and a commitment to developing an original research paper in English as well as a shorter blog post or an opinion piece during the programme period.

Opportunities for Participants
Successful applicants will:
- Receive structured methodological training and mentorship;
- Join a peer network of researchers working on human rights issues;
- Gain support to submit their research to the international conference; and
- Receive guidance toward publication of their work.

Application Process
Interested applicants should submit:
- An academic CV, and
- A short description (1–2 pages) outlining the research they are interested in conducting within the framework of the Academy.

Duration and Commitment
The programme will run for seven months, from April to October 2026. Participants must commit to actively engage in online and in-person training sessions, peer sharing exercises, mentorship meetings, and research development activities throughout the period.
