JOB DESCRIPTION: 

GIZ is looking for a Technical Advisor with focus on tourism development for its new bilateral project “Private Sector Development and Technical and Vocational Training and Education (PSDTVET Armenia)” (04/2024 – 09/2028), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). The project aims at the objective that Armenia can better utilise its potential for a transformation towards a future-oriented economy in selected sectors (technology development, tourism, textile and wine).
This position is expected to start on 01.08.2026 for the remaining project duration, with the possibility of extension in case co-funding will be included. The permanent workplace for this position is in Yerevan, with the requirement of business trips esp. into the regions of Armenia in which the project is active as well as to the countries most likely in the European Union.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

- liaises closely with relevant local partners to design, plan, and implement activities for the project, esp. related to the tourism sector;
- prepares, implements and documents training events, workshops, forums, team meetings and other project activities, esp. related to the tourism sector;
- assists national and international advisers in carrying out their work in Armenia and if required abroad;
- helps identify the needs of government institutions, NGOs, enterprises, esp. in the tourism sector
- supports in approving and controlling expenses for project activities in accordance with the pre-vailing provisions;
• coordinates and assists all communication matters preparing and conducting activities, esp. related to the tourism sector and carries out other activities required for implementing these activities;
• collects and processes activity results and data for monitoring system and compiles reports in English.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

- Graduate degree (equivalent to a Bachelor or Master degree) in a relevant subject such as Business Administration, Economics or any tourism-related subject;
- Professional experience, at least 5 years, in the development of tourism obtained in an international organisation;
- Excellent presentation skills with creative approaches;
- Fluent written and oral knowledge of English and Armenian language;
- Willingness to travel into project regions as well as abroad.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Good self-organisation skills;
- Customer and service-oriented attitude;
- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed;
- Ability to work under pressure.

ABOUT: 

The project “Promoting a future-oriented economy in Armenia, PSDTVET” aims at the objective that Armenia can better utilise its potential for a transformation towards a future-oriented economy in selected sectors. The project:
- Increases awareness of the transformation towards a future-orientated economy
- Promotes green and digital skills in vocational education and training
- Increases the range of future-oriented training and continuing professional development to provide trainees and workers with better qualifications, especially in resource-friendly economies and digital tools
- Adapts the innovation ecosystem to the needs of a future-oriented Armenian economy, taking into account women entrepreneurs and green business models
The project works with the Armenian Ministry of Economy (MoE), the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (ESCS) and downstream institutions such as the Tourism Committee, the National Centre for Vocational Education and Training Development and the National Training Fund.
