JOB DESCRIPTION: 
The National Specialist on Agri-Food Systems will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and direct technical guidance of the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Officer (REU), in close cooperation with FAO country offices. Support evidence-informed policy development and promote a comprehensive and systemic approach to bring coherence to the existing policy fragmentation with a special emphasis on the food, agriculture and health and nutrition sectors, while also addressing livelihood and sustainability challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Specialist will support the implementation of the country-specific activities under the regional project TCP/RER/3904 "Transforming agri-food systems in ECA region through supporting regional, national and local actions" by carrying out the following main activities:
For the in-depth analysis of priority food system issues in the country:
- Assist the office in organizing 3 national dialogues related to the selected priority food system issues and cross-cutting areas;
- With technical guidance of International Expert on Agrifood Systems the Lead Technical Officer (LTO) and the food system research team (Service Provider), conduct the in-depth country analysis on selected food system issues;
- Support international experts in collecting and analysing secondary data on food and nutrition from official statistics and other relevant sources such as published research papers and international agencies;
- Participate in at least one of the regional events, present the country results and prepare back to office report;
- Collect and analyze practical examples on policy coherence, trade-offs and synergies (case studies) on selected food system priority issues.
For the urban food system assessment:
- Support the selection of 2 suitable cities for the urban food assessment and establish contact with the municipalities;
- Facilitate the communication between the international consultants (the Service Provider) and city representatives, as well as local organizations, charities, communities and other stakeholders in order to complete the urban food system assessments;
- Support data collection activities as required, including the mapping of existing urban food initiatives and the identification of most promising practices.
For both components:
- Maintain regular communication and ensure close coordination with national stakeholders, counterparts and FAO team in project activities;
- Where relevant, collaborate with other UN agencies in conducting related assessments and surveys;
- Lead the preparation of national level workshops and meetings with stakeholders;
- Support visiting missions to the country;
- Review the progress and relevance of the project activities and suggest necessary actions to achieve the project goals at national level.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
- University degree in food policy, food safety, food technology, agriculture, nutrition, economics, rural development, environment, sustainable development or related fields;
- At least 3 years of working experience in fields related to agriculture, food production, nutrition, agri-food system transformation, rural development, advisory services, food finance and/or other relevant areas of work;
- Limited knowledge (Intermediate - level B) of English;
- National of Armenia or resident of the country with a valid work permit.
