The Cocoa Pathology project is part of a long-term programme whose aim is to develop research and extension capacity for national coca replacement programmes in Latin America, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) under their Alternative Crops Programme. The objective of the project is the development of integrated control options for the major fungal pathogens of cocoa (Theobroma cacao), Moniliophthora roreri, Phytophthora palmivora and Crinipellis perniciosa, the causal agents of frosty pod, black pod and witches' broom, respectively.
